Day 113

Went for a 2 - 3 km jog today. Was able to get to full stride.

Boy have I lost my fitness. That run almost killed me !!! Still, the calf felt fine and just a small bit of pain around the ankle. I am going to now try jogging every second day and see how things hold up.

Great story. I just had the surgery on Aug 6th. Going crazy already!!! I wanted to ask you questions but don't see a spot to email you. Where can I find a way to email you some questions?

Well, I ruptured mine on the basketball court. 18 year old moves...35 year old legs. Being 8 days out of the surgery (day 10 since the injury) I was curious if you were able to feel any movement of the tendon and calf muscle when in the cast. I had the cast replaced yesterday after posting my comment. I was too scared to really move my foot when the cast was off. They removed the stitches and said it looked good. Before the doc said the tendon felt good I was scared to death that maybe it didn't take. They recasted me for 4 weeks even though my incision was already completely healed. Mostly because of the condition of the tendon after the injury...pretty shredded!! How much muscle would you say you lost in your calf muscle? Looking at mine yesterday I have probably lost 1-2 inches already. AHHHH!! Lastly, for now anyhow, when you got out of the cast and into the boot was it PWB or FWB? How did it feel? Thanks for your time and for putting the effort into such an informative site. Matt

Hi Matt, well I was 48 year old legs also playing against 18 yo ones !!
I too had muscle atrophy. I think it was about 2.5 cms after a couple of months.
I am now at day 123 and just meausured my calf and I am back to 0.5 cms.
When I was in the cast I was continually trying to flex my toes and calf to keep the blood flowing.

I actually skipped the boot. Wore it out of the specialists, took it off to drive home and never put it back on. Went straight to a sand shoe. Of course I was limping around for many weeks but at least I was stretching it.
I think the secret to a quick recovery is to get mobile as quick as possible.
